The Dumb Spirit

“Not by might nor by power but by My Ruach [Spirit] says YHVH tzevaoth [hosts or
armies] [Zecharyah -Zechariah4:6]

It is by His Spirit that we speak, claim,
prophesy, & expect miracles in our lives.

As we declare that which already exists in heavens[ His blessings, financial favor, healing, new body parts, and so on]  His messengers the angels give heed to His voice and His word on our tongue and in our heart.  They hear us decree YHVH’S will for our lives, to give us life abundant in joy, peace, and so they come to bring heaven in earth!

If we believe in Yeshua, He gives us the keys to the kingdom of heaven: repent; believe, receive; ask, pray, knock, seek, obey and trust! These keys do open doors to heaven and blessings do come!

On the other hand, we can have a dumb spirit in
us if we are not giving testimony, speaking the Word, prophesying,
praying for others, preaching the gospel, nor loving others nor Elohim Almighty God.
For example, there are  2 blind men [for the 2 houses of Yisra’el] in Matthew 9:27,
who followed Yeshua,  as they shouted to Him , “Ben David, Son of David! Take pity on us!”
They did knock, seek & find Him. It says when Yeshua entered the
house, the blind men came up. What house? Y’shua entered their house,
their temple, of the Ruach .  When Y’shua ben David entered their house,
they were spiritually blind . He touched the 2 blind men’s eyes,
& their spiritual sight was restored. Their dumb spirit was gone too,
for “…they went away & talked about Him throughout the district.”
They may have even brought a demon possessed man to Yeshua, for it
says:

” As they were going, a man controlled by a
demon & unable to speak was brought to Yeshua. After the demon was
expelled the man who had been dumb spoke & the crowds were amazed. ‘Nothing like this has ever been seen in Yisra’el!’ [Matthew 9:32-33] “.

The healed man, once bound & unable to speak, now amazed all of the 2 houses of Yisra’el.
Inability to speak about YHVH, to praise His Name, to glorify Him may
indicate a dumb spirit. Once this dumb spirit is gone by the Ru-ach
HaKodesh [the Holy Spirit] in the Name of Yeshua, we can speak to anyone, we can shout
from the rooftops, we can glorify & praise His Name wherever we are.
We are no longer bound.  When we are no longer bound, the Ru-ach has
freedom , & in freedom the Ru-ach reigns, & miracles happen.

“Then some people brought Him a man controlled by demons who was blind & mute; & Yeshua [ben David] healed him, so he could both speak & see. [Matthew 12:22]”

  •   “Dumb” does not refer to one’s mental capacity ; rather dumb is the state of voluntary or involuntary stillness of voice, as in tongue-tied or speechless. In Hebrew, dumb is “il-ame’ ” from “aw-lam“.

Moshe complained to YHVH, saying he was a terrible speaker &
stuttered. YHVH told him , who gives a person a mouth?

“Who makes a person deaf or dumb, keen-sighted or blind? Isn’t it I , YHVH? Now,
therefore, go; & I will be with your mouth & will teach you what
to say [Exodus 4:10-12]”.

This should encourage anyone who feels they
can neither preach nor teach the Word.

Involuntary stillness of voice also came to the Zecharyah , priest in the Temple, in
Luke 1:20, as he was visited by Gavri’el the angel [Luke 1:8-19].
Z’charyah feared & doubted when told Elisheva [Elizabeth] would bear
a son, who would bring joy & delight, & turn many of the people
of Yisrael to YHVH. “Now because you don’t believe what I said, which
will be fulfilled when the time comes, you will be silent, unable to speak until
the day these things take place.” Once he believed, his mouth opened,
& Z’charyah prophesied a heartfelt blessing on his newborn,
Yochannan [John the Immerser].

“And his mouth was opened immediately, & his tongue loosed & he spoke & praised YHWH.”

“And …Z’charyah was filled with the Ruach Hakodesh, and prophesied, saying…”. [v.64-79]
Miracles still happen. The Messiah & the Immerser came to prepare
us for the Kingdom of Heaven.  With repentence and a clean spirit within
us, the Ru-ach Hakodesh, we no longer should have a dumb spirit. We are
saved, bestowed with mercies, & delivered, that we might serve YHVH
without fear, in set-apartness & righteousness before Him, all the
days of our lives. We are ordained or appointed & anointed to go
before the face of Master YHVH Yeshua to prepare His ways; to give the
knowledge of salvation to His people , to give Light to them that sit in
darkness & in the shadow of death. Amen.

Thanks for the tender mercies of our Eloah! We have been visited by the Dayspring from on High! Halleluyah!

“See, I have refined you, but not as silver; I have chosen you in the furnace of affliction.  For My own sake…” [Isaiah 48:10-11a]“.

We are called and chosen to be His people, refined in the furnace of affliction, to become His praise and priests of His Royal priesthood!

  • Refine: to make fine or pure; free from impurities, from courseness!  Imbue with culture, polish, and delicate sensibilities! We are refined or made free of impurities in the furnace of Affliction, to become pure gold! This is why we become stressed at times, to become more refined or free of impurities, for His sake!
  • Silver: soft, lustrous metal, used as catalyst, conductor, and to coat mirrors, to reflect us and GOD in us ;or pale money, keceph; greed!
  • Gold:the heaviest but soft lustrous metal,  good conductor, refined only in the furnace!
  • Conduct: way of acting; direct or lead; guide; serve as a medium for or transmit such as heat, electricity and sound; from  Latin, to lead to or bring together!  May we act reflecting Y’shua Jesus, directing and leading people to Him, bringing His Bride together, to glorify Him!
  • Furnace: an extremely hot place, structure containing a chamber for production of intense heat! In the heat, 7 times hotter, is Y’shua with us, if we believe in Him and His Word!

“…eat unleavenedbread with it, bread of affliction, because you came out of the land of Mitsrayim [Egypt] …remember the day in which you came out of …Egypt, all the days of your life.” [Deuteronomy 16:3]

  • Unleavened bread has no leaven [yeast nor baking soda/powder] , is flat, pressed down & baked as is
  • No yeast = no rise~no haughtiness; only  humility, submission, abasement;  opposite of self-exalt!
  • We are to eat, to chew, to meditate this flat bread
  • As we eat, we are to abase self, humble and submit to Yahweh Elohim , Almighty GOD
  • This bread is the Bread of Life~ Jesus Y’shua Messiah
  • See in this flat bread the One who humbled Himself for us and raises us up to new life in Him and at the last day: He is our rise in Life! Matzah, the flat bread of Passover, has pierced marks and stripes, reflecting the torture of Christ for us!
  • So , we are to eat this bread of affliction…and remember our own days of slavery to sin and remember the day we came out, set free by the blood of Jesus Y’shua the Christ Messiah!
  • But…what does it mean, ”bread of affliction”?

Affliction: from the Hebrew, “oniy“: depression! from aw-nah: to depress, abase self, afflict self, submit self, humble self. Christ Messiah submitted Himself for us, was afflicted to provide atonement for our sins, as the Lamb of Yahweh GOD of Isaiah 53!

  • “Yahweh has heard your affliction…[Genesis 16:11]“!
  • “Yahweh has looked upon my affliction…[Genesis 29:32]“!
  • “Yahweh has seen my affliction…[31:42]“! See also Exodus 3:7, 17, 4:31, & Deuteronomy 16:3,  26:7; 1 Samuel 1:11 [Hannah’s affliction ] & Nehemiah 9:9!
  • Job, ” held in the cords of affliction” [36:8], prayed ” therefore see my affliction” [10:15], as the ” days of affliction have taken hold” [30:16], yet to be ”chosen rather than afflicted” [36:21]!
  • Psalmists sang ”…abhorred the affliction of the afflicted…” [22:24] and cried, ” Look upon my affliction and my pain…[25:18]” ! ” …my eye mourns by reason of affliction…[88:9]!

Nevertheless He regarded their affliction or trouble, tsar in Hebrew, a narrow tight place, as in Zechariah 8:10 and Hosea 5:15 !

I shall go, I shall return to My place, until they confess their guilt and seek My face, in their distress diligently search for Me.

There is trouble or anguish, tightness, tribulation or tsa-rah!  And there is tsaw-rar, to cramp , adversary, besiege, or bind , as in Amos 5:12,

For I know your transgressions are many and your sins are great, afflicting the righteous…

Then there is ra’, evil and bad,  from ra’a, to spoil by breaking to pieces and make ‘good for nothing’ ! Ra’ is adversity, calamity, distress, harm, ill mischief, misery, sorrow, trouble, vex, and wickedness!

” [And you should not have ]…nor have entered the gate of My people in the day of their calamity, nor looked down on their evil in the day of their calamity, nor have seized their wealth in the day of their calamity … (Obadiah 12-13)”!

Out of affliction , fracture, or ruin can be birthed a solution! The Hebrew word sheber, for ruin , breach, breaking, crashing comes from shabar, to burst, break down, crush , destroy but also ‘bring to birth’ ! Amos 6:6 had this ‘in mind’ mentioning  Yosef, [Joseph], a shepherd boy thrown into a pit, sold into slavery, who rose to be Prince of Egypt:

“[ You]… who are drinking wine from bowls, and anoint with the finest ointments, yet they have not grieved over the breach [affliction] of Yosef!”

Psalm 102 is ” a prayer of the afflicted, when he is overwhelmed and pours out his complaint before Yahweh “!

” O Yahweh, hear my prayer, and let my cry come to You! Do not hide Your face from me in the day of my distress; incline Your ear to me…”! [v. 1-2]

Psalm 140:12 affirms that Yahweh maintains the cause of the afflicted:

I have known that YaHWeH maintains the cause of the afflicted, the right ruling of the poor.

Yahweh deserves and receives praise in Psalm 66: 1-2,

” Shout with joy to Elohim, All the earth! Sing out the splendor of His Name; Make His praise esteemed”!

Yahweh deserves praise always, even as, in verses 10 & 11, we read, using the Hebrew for affliction,  mu-aqah: pressure, distress, as in ‘packed’ :

“For You, O Elohim, have proved us;    You have refined us as silver is refined. You brought us into the net; You laid affliction on our loins”!

Even in the time of evil and affliction, we give praise, for He is there with us:

“Yahweh said, Did I not direct you for good? Did I not intercede for you in a time of evil and in a time of distress (tsarah) against the enemy? [Jeremiah 15: 11]“

“O Yahweh, my strength and my stronghold and my refuge, in the day of distress…[16:19]“.

So, should we give thanks for affliction? Does it  bring us closer to Him?

“Yahudah (Judah) has gone into exile, because of affliction and because of the harsh labor…[Lamentations 1:3 ] “.

“In the days of her affliction and wandering, Jerusalem remembered all her pleasantries she had in the days of old [v.7]“.

“See, O Yahweh, my affliction, for the enemy has made himself great! [v. 9b]“

“This is why I weep. My eye, my eye is running down with water, because the Comforter, who could bring back my life, has been far from me. [v. 16]“.

“See, O Yahweh, that I am in distress. My inward parts are boiling up, my heart is overturned within me, for I have been very rebellious [v. 20a]“.

“I am a man who has seen affliction by the rod of His wrath [3:1]“

  • darkness and not light [v.2]
  • His hand against , His back turned [v.3]
  • flesh and bones worn and broken [v.4]
  • surrounded by bitterness and hardship
  • hedged in, not going out [v. 7]
  • cry and shout but prayers ‘not heard’ [v. 8]
  • own way blocked, paths crooked [v.9]
  • as if a lion or bear lie in wait to attack [v. 10]
  • “He has bent His bow and stood me up as a target for the arrow. He made the arrows of His quiver pierce my kidneys. [v. 12-13] “.

Yet, Yahweh indeed ”remembers” and bows down to us! [ Lamentations 3 : 20]

” 21 This I recall to my mind, therefore I wait:   22 The kindnesses of Yahweh!    For we have not been consumed, for His compassions have not ended.   23  They are new every morning, great is Your trustworthiness.  24  ‘Yahweh is my Portion ‘ , says my being, ‘ Therefore I wait for Him! ‘

25 Yahweh is good to those waiting for Him, to the being who seeks Him.”

We can cry out to Yahweh just as Yonah [Jonah] prayed to Yahweh his Elohim from the stomach of the fish!

“And he said, ‘ I called to Yahweh because of my distress, and He answered me…[Jonah 2:2]“!

Affliction is lachats: to press, distress, crush, force, oppress, as used also in Nahum 1:9 & 12, and Isaiah 63: 9:

In all their distress He was distressed, and the Messenger of His Presence [Y’shua] saved them.  In His love and in His compassion He redeemed them, and He lifted them up and carried them all the days of old.”

Yahweh is distressed when we are! If we have no root in the Branch, the root of Jesse, Y’shua,  we are “short-lived” and

” 17 b Then when pressure or persecution arises because of the Word, immediately they stumble.

20 And those sown on good soil, are those who hear the Word and accept it, and bear fruit, some 30fold, and some 60, and some a 100 [Mark 4]“.

Thlipsis is Greek for pressure : affliction, burdened, persecution, tribulation!

“19 For in those days there shall be distress, such as has not been from the beginning of creation which Elohim created until this time , nor ever shall be.

20 And if the Master had not shortened those days, no flesh would have been saved; but because of the chosen ones, whom He chose, He shortened the days. [ Y’shua speaking , Mark 13]

Stephanos, a chosen one of  Y’shua preached about  distress [Acts 7:11] and salvation through Y’shua and  was persecuted and stoned to death [v. 54-60]!

Sha’ul, Paul the Apostle, saw much affliction in his ministry:

“For out of much pressure and distress of heart I wrote to you, with many tears, not that you should be sad, but that you might know the love I so richly have for you [2 Corinthians 2:4]“.

“Some indeed proclaim Messiah even from envy and strife, but some also out of pleasure- the former announce Messiah from selfish ambition, not sincerely, thinking to add distress to my chains…[Philippians 1:15-16]“.

Paul encouraged us to become “imitators” of him and Messiah, having received the Word ”in much pressure“, with joy of the Holy Spirit [1 Thessalonians 1: 6]!

“…therefore, brothers, in all our pressure and distress we were encouraged concerning you by your belief. Because we now live, if you stand fast in the Master [3:7-8]“!

Moshe by belief, became great in Yahweh, refusing to be called the son of the daughter of Pharaoh,

“…choosing rather to be afflicted with the people of Elohim than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a time, deeming the reproach of Messiah greater riches than the treasures in Egypt, for he was looking for the reward [ Hebrews 11: 24-26]“.

James encouraged his brethren and us to “take the prophets” as an “example of suffering and patience”, “who spoke in the Name of Yahweh” [James 5:10]!

Yahweh does not willingly afflict [Lamentations 3:33] and undoes in time all that does afflict us [Zephaniah 3:19], as we call upon His Name. Then in time we may say, as the Psalmist, in Psalm 116:10, “…good for me to have been afflicted…”! [also Psalms 119: 67, 71, 75, & 107] Shalom….

“If Yahweh hadn’t helped me, I would soon have dwelt in the land of silence.

When I said,  ‘My foot is slipping!’ Your grace, Yahweh, supported me.

When my cares within me are many, Your comforts

cheer me up. [Psalm 94:17-19]”!

How does one become a dweller in the land of silence?  How does it start?

“There is no matter that enters a man from outside, which is able to defile him, but it is what comes out of him that defiles the man [Marqos/ Mark 7:15]”.

“It is what comes out of a person”, [Yeshua] went on, “that makes him unclean. For from within, out of a person’s heart come forth wicked thoughts, sexual

immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, indecency, envy, slander, arrogance, foolishness…All these wicked things come from within, and they make the person unclean.”

A foot slips, anger, high conflict, toxic behaviors, toxic thoughts; stress, neglect, abuse, and maltreatment; more stress, sickness, anxieties, mood disorder.

No hope, crying, tormenting thoughts! Alcohol, weed, drugs to forget the pains.

Minor depression to major mood swings, poor judgement, poor impulse control, anti-social behavior, no sleep, chronic pains; mania, paranoia, social anxiety; horrors frozen in memory, intrusive thoughts, dreams and feelings; obsessions and compulsions; covert anger, thoughts which sustain toxic anger; destructive and self-defeating outbursts; self-destruction, including cutting!

A single demon can sow poison even into the multitudes! The accuser  seeks to destroy  through faulty thoughts or lies . He then steals  joy, peace, and contentment . A demon of accusation or bitterness is added to self-righteousness and one becomes a “demon” himself, marching not in victory in Yeshua but in: pride, self-righteousness, respectability, selfishness, ambition, unrighteous judgement, jealousy, envy…

The heart is crooked above all, and desperately sick – who shall know it? I Yahweh search the heart, I try the kidneys, and give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his deeds [Yirmeyahu – Jeremiah 17:9,10].

The demonic weapons become not love, patience, long-suffering…no, these weapons become :intimidation, fault finding, accusation, gossip, slander, rejection, bitterness, lust, impatience, and unforgiveness.

The strategy of the enemy is to divide the house; locate any opening, exploit and make it larger. High-conflict, disorder , moods and thoughts toxic , anxieties and anger mount up, become a mountain not moving.  Soon, without change or help, a man can not remain home, and so leaves to live among  ‘the caves of the burial tombs’. No one can keep him even tied up, not even with a chain.

The evil spirits now in him gather strength. Once he had been chained for his good and that of the community. Now he snaps the chains on his hands and breaks the irons off his feet, and no one is strong enough to control him. Night and day he wanders among the land of silence, among the graves of the dead, and through the hills, howling like a animal and gashing himself with stones.

Meet the demoniac of Mark 5:1-5, Matthew 8:28-34, and Luke 8:26-39!

The solution is one!

The answer is found in Luke: Once swept clean  by the Stronger Man [see Luke 11:16-26], and filled with the Spirit of Yahweh, man’s enemies have no room in which to dwell, and leave for drier places, where the Word dwells not! They can return and if empty, bring 7 worse spirits with them!

  1. Stop ‘hosting’ the demon
  2. Stop agreeing with the demon which perverts the Word of Yahweh
  3. See the sin!
  4. Start professing the Word, using it as sword and shield : “He is my Defender”, “He is my shield”,  “Yahweh is Sovereign, He is in control”!
  5. Ask Yeshua to cleanse, purify, sanctify self.
  6. Have Yeshua heal all wounds
  7. Do not fear, have no anger; rather, armor self as in Ephesians 6:10-18
  8. Stand and fight, with faith, hope, and love. Let the shield grow, wisdom in Yahweh increase, climb from salvation to sanctification, in prayer and faithfulness!
  9. Climb the mountain of Elohim; the darts and arrows of the enemy decrease and penetrate less!
  10. Allow Yeshua to comfort every step of the Way!

Psalms 94:19 : When anxiety was great within me, Your comforts delighted my being.

20 But Yahweh is my defense, And my Elohim the

Rock of my refuge.

Yahweh through Yeshua the Messiah is our stronghold. He alone will cut off and cast down our enemies. Yeshua told Satan to step behind Him, for Satan’s thoughts are stumbling-blocks and not of Elohim [Mattithyahu – Matthew 16:23]! Yeshua is our STRONGerMAN who stands forward and behind us, leading us to victory in Him. He binds the enemy and cleans our house!

As in Psalms 91, IF we make our dwelling place  in the SECRET place of the Most High, we shall never dwell in a cemetery again!  Our desire daily should be to tarry under His shadow by the Light of Yeshua. Under His wings we take our refuge. His Word, the Truth, becomes our shield and armor.

Psalms 91:5 You are not afraid of the dread by night, of the arrow that flies by day, 6  of the pestilence that walks in darkness, of destruction that ravages at midday.

7 A thousand fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand; but it does not come near you.

9 Because you have made Yahweh – my refuge, the Most High – your dwelling place,

10 NO evil befalls you, and a plague does not come near your tent…

The darts and arrows of the enemy fall at your side for He commands His messengers, the angels, concerning you [v.11] to guard you in all your ways!

So tread on that lion and cobra [v. 13], trample under foot the young lion and serpent!

14 “Because he clings to Me in love, therefore I deliver him; I exalt him, because he has known My Name.

15 “When he calls on Me, I answer him; I AM with him in distress; I deliver him and esteem him.

The Most High is asking, Who has woe? Who has sorrow? Who has contentions? Who has complaints? Who feels hurt without cause? Who has redness of eyes? [Proverbs 23:29]

My son, give me your heart, and let your eyes watch My ways [v.26]!

Stand in the ways and see, and ask for the old paths, where the good way is, and walk in it; and find rest for yourselves…[Yirmeyahu – Jeremiah 6:16]!

Bitten by a snake? Stung by an adder? Yahweh has come. Yahweh has called., and His hand is not too short to redeem. His power remains strong to deliver.

Yeshayahu – Our Yah Saves -Isaiah 50:4 ” The Master Yahweh has given Me the tongue of talmidim [disciples], that I should know to help the weary with a word. He wakes Me morning by morning, He wakes My ear to hear as talmidim.

5 The Master Yahweh has opened My ear, and I was not rebellious, nor dd I turn away.

6 I gave My back to those who struck Me, and My cheeks to those who plucked out the beard, I did not hide My face from humiliation and spitting.

9 See, the Master Yahweh helps Me…

10 Who among you is revering Yahweh, obeying the voice of His Servant, that has walked in darkness and has no light? Let him trust in the Name of

For with joy you go out, and with peace you are brought in–the mountains and the hills break forth into singing before you, and all the trees of the field clap the hands. ~ Isaiah, 55:12

The departures of the children of Israel started with great joy and boldness, as they went out of the land of their enslavement, Egypt. Troop by troop, family by clan, tribe by tribe, they set out from Rameses, the morrow of the Passover:

“…the children of Israel started out defiantly, in plain view of all the Egyptians [Numbers 33:3]”.

Great victories were won over their former slave-masters! The Egyptians were now occupied in burying their first-born,

“…whom the LORD had struck down…whereby the LORD executed judgment on their gods [v.4]”.

41 times in 40 years the Israelites would depart and camp: 33 times until the death of Aaron, at Mt. Hor;  then 8 times more to the Yarden [the Jordan River]~

Here are the departures and encampments in the Exodus:

“…for you are passing over the Yarden [Jordan] to go in to possess the land which Yehovah your Elohim is giving  you, and you shall possess it and dwell in it…guard to do all the Laws and Right-Rulings which I  AM putting before you today.” ~ Deuteronomy 11:31-32

The children of Israel, over a million,  led out by Moses and Aaron  depart Rameses and camp at Succoth, in the biblical land of Goshen, near Wadi Tumilat, in the delta region of the Nile River[v.5; Exodus 12:37; 13:20].

  • Succoth [Sukkot, in Hebrew] the first camp  the first step to having a safe, strong relationship with Elohim, the Almighty God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Succoth = booths, or huts, made of entwined branches. Elohim  desired the Israelites be branches in the Branch entwined in  branches in the Vine. The Messiah,  the Branch [Isaiah 11:1, Jeremiah 23:5, 33:15, Zechariah 3:8, 6:12], proclaims He is the Branch or Vine, and we are the branches. There we are safe, strong and fruitful.

He who stays in Me, and I in him, he bears much fruit. Because without Me, you are able to do nothing. [John/ Yohanan 15:5]

  • During the Feast of Tabernacles, which is Sukkot, we dwell in entwined booths [Leviticus 23:42-43] to remember the Exodus . We “tabernacle” or dwell with Elohim for 7 days, and He tabernacles with us [ImmanuEl, with us (is) El, Isaiah 7:14] .* “Dwell” in Hebrew , is also “marry” or “tarry“, as in Psalm 91:1,

He that dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. [Abide means to “reside, permanently”!

  • departed Sukkoth [departed their booths or tabernacle with Adonai]—>  to camp at Etham  —>

They depart Sukkot,  camp in Etham [contemplation; still in Egypt], then  enter the edge of the wilderness: the “mouth of the gorges”, Pnai-Hachiroth, near “Ba’al of winter or lord of North”, Ba’al Tzephon. Numbers 33:7 gives no other information.

  • Ba’al Tzephon was an Egyptian diety of the sea and commerce and “North” refers to the “dark” side, in Hebrew, often. It can be surmised the Israelites ‘ hearts may have been turning to other elohim, gods of Egypt , thus entering a “danger” zone!

Worship of the Almighty, in a “mountain top” experience, with revelation and vows of commitment  often are followed by tests and trials, dry periods not “hearing” from God nor being “filled” by His Spirit. At this point many turn back, to old ways, old gods,  and old enemies [Exodus 14:9].  And  fear can set in and overcome [v.10].

Often believers are in “camp” near  their “enemies”. “Powers and principalities of darkness” all around us. But..camp “opposite” these “ba’al’s”, standing with all the armor ! We know the Presence goes before us, behind us, and beside us.

“The column of cloud did not cease by day, nor the column of fire by night [Ex.13:22]”.

Moshe [Moses] reminds the people [who had already witnessed the miracles in the 10 plagues], ” Do not be afraid. Stand still, and see the deliverance of Yehovah…Yehovah fights for you, and you keep silent [14: 13-14]!”

“And I shall harden the heart of Pharaoh, and he shall pursue them. But I AM to be esteemed through Pharaoh … and the Egyptians shall know that I AM Yehovah [Ex. 14:4]”!

  • Yehovah turned them back to Pi Hachiroth [mouth of gorges, entering deep danger], opposite Ba’al Tzephon [lord of winter or the north =darkness, cold], near Migdol, [tower, fortress] west of the Red Sea, [?symbolic of blood, red glow from its habitat?] —>

  • Adonai has them pass over miraculously through the midst of the sea [*Red, as in the blood, and/ or Sea of Reeds, qanah, in Hebrew, to bow or bend as in worship*]; the Israelites are cleansed and immersed, to new life in Adonai, while the enemy is drowned; depart into the wilderness of Etham or Shur, 3 days —->
  • travel the wilderness, 3 days, to camp at Marah, [bitter, to be or make]; after complaints, bitter waters were made sweet by a tree, Ex.15:25, a foreshadow of Messiah’s miracle, His  death at Golgotha on the tree, sweetening & transforming our lives ; there Yehovah made a judgement and a ruling and tested them and became their Yehovah-Rophecah, Yehovah- Your Healer [v.26]; 7 miles E of the Red Sea, East is direction of eternity!—>
  • they moved from “bitter” Marah & came to Eylim, [palms, plural for “ayil”, strength, chief, oak, ram];Eylim [Elim] is an oasis of 12 springs [symbolic for the 12 tribes] or fountains, wells of water [“ayin“, for “out of  his [a believer in Messiah] belly shall flow rivers of living water” [Yochanan/ John 7:38];  and 70 palm trees (70 elders were chosen to rise up on Mt. Sinai [Ex. 24:1 & 9]; Yeshua sends out 70 to witness [Luke 10:1 & 17] ). —->
  • they moved from Eylim and encamped by the Sea of Reeds [the northern end of the Suez Gulf, by the Red Sea]; reeds or canes are bamboo like branches, empty or hollow inside, which bend and bow in the flow of the stream! [we are to empty ourselves and “go with the flow” of the Ruach HaKadosh, the Holy Spirit!]—>
  • they took their journey from the Sea of Reeds, and encamped in the wilderness of Tzin [Sin, to prick or pierce; a craggy rock]; this  happens to believers: immersed in the water of Life, purified, washed in the blood of Yeshua, then “pricked” or pierced by roughness in the journey of life; surely the Messiah was pierced because of our sin and transgressions [Isaiah 53, Zechariah 12:10].—>
  • they took their journey out of the wilderness of Tzin, and encamped in Dophkah [to beat, press severe, knock]; from the wilderness prick, to be beaten, pressed down, knocked out as in a fight; the grapes here are pressed to get the fine wine; the gold is beaten to create the light! No promises but that He will be with you to the end, eternal life with Him!—->
  • somewhere in the wilderness between Eylim and Senai,  they received the Manna from Heaven [Ex. 16:4] and the quail [v.12]; the Israelites were taught to have their way in Adonai’s Torah, to work 6 days and rest on the 7th. A pot of Manna, the Bread, was stored up to be kept as the Testimony before Yehovah [v.33], representing Messiah in the ark. —>
  • they departed from Dophkah [beat], and encamped in Alush [wild, knead as in punched down (dough); again referring to Messiah, the Bread of life, punched down for us; Isaiah 53].—>
  • they moved from Alush and encamped at Rephidim [balusters or railings], for support; there was no water for the people to drink. “Rephidim” derives from “raphad“, to spread, to comfort, refresh! Out of our discomfort, our dry periods, our valleys, come the waters of regeneration and transformation. No water for over 2 million! Out of our difficulties come our miracles! The Rock, in Horev [17:2-7], a foreshadow of our Messiah,  is smitten one time, for our sin, and out of it comes living water, “so that people may drink”! Moshe calls the place Massah [a testing, a trial, of Adonai] and Meribah [quarrel, provocation].
  • “Then came Amalek, [descendants of Esau, twin of Ya’akov, Jacob; head of 12 Arabian princes] , and fought with Yisrael in Rephidim” [v.8-13]. Aaron and Hur held up Moshe’s hands while Joshua defeated Amelek and their people “with the edge of the  sword” [the 2 edged sword = the Word]! Then came the trial, but then came the miracle, through the power of praise, prayer and the Word! Yehovah-Nissi, Yehovah my Banner will utterly erase the remembrance of Amelek , because his hand is on His throne [v.14-16]!—>
  • they departed from Rephidim, and camped in the wilderness of Senai [Sinai] (Exodus 19:2), “before the mount [of Elohim]”. Moshe went up to Elohim, “and Yehovah called to him out of the mountain…:

“You have seen what I did to the Mitzrim [Egyptians], and how I bore you on eagles’ wings, and brought you to Myself. Now therefore, if you will obey My voice indeed, and guard My brit [covenant], then you shall be a peculiar treasure to Me, above all peoples: for all the earth is Mine [v.4-6]…”.

  • And at Senai [Sinai : thorny], the word of Elohim spoke The Torah [instructions] (Ex.20 -23:33). After burnt offerings and peace offerings, Moshe sprinkled half of the blood on the altar. And the people said,” All that Yehovah has said will we do , and be obedient [v.7].” Moshe sprinkled blood on the people, the blood sealing the covenant!
  • And it came to pass, Exodus 24-Numbers 10, the cloud of Yehovah upon them, they depart out of Senai, —>

“Rise up Yehovah, and let Your enemies be scattered; and let them that hate You flee before You [Numbers 10:35]…”.

  • they moved from the desert of Senai, and camped at KibrothHattaavah, graves of longing or tombs of delight: because there they buried people that lusted again after meat: Yehovah rained quail on them for days, which they asked for, and then smote them with a very great plague [11:10-34].—->
  • they departed from Kibroth-Hattaavah and encamped at Hatzeroth [inclosed yards, a court, tower, village or hamlet, surrounded ]: here Miryam and Aaron broke rank to speak against their brother, Moshe and his Ethiopian wife; Miryam becomes leprous, healed only by the intercessory prayers of her brother, Moshe [12:1-15]! Yehovah surely enclosed Moshe with avid love , “…with him will I speak mouth to mouth [or face to face]…” and respect!—->
  • the people, after waiting 7 days for cleansing of Miryam, left from Hatzeroth, and camped in the wilderness of Paran; from here 12 are sent to spy out the land of Kanaan [Canaan]. And again the people provoke Yehovah with murmurs, complaints and fear. He turns them back to the Sea of Reeds, and curses them not to enter the promised land [14:22-24] those “who have seen My esteem and the signs..have tried Me now these ten times, and have disobeyed My voice…but My servant Kaleb, because he has a different spirit in him and has followed Me completely…”. The 10 men who brought an evil report died by the plague and the Amaleqites smote the people without the Ark of the Covenant nor blessings of Moshe [v.26-45].—>
  • they departed from Hatzeroth, and camped in Rithmah [juniper or broom tree, with pole-like branches] (Numbers 33:18]. “Rithmah” derives from “ratham”, to yoke up or bind. Messiah  the Branch says His yoke is easy, His burden is light [Mattityahu/Matthew 11:29-30]”! The burden of the world is heavier, sin weighing it down.
  • And they departed from Rithmah, and camped at Rimmon-Parez [pomegranate of the Breach]. The pomegranate is a red skin fruit, filled with 613 seeds, symbolic of the 613 “laws” in the Torah, covered in the blood; when pressed, it releases healing juice. Pomegranates lined the hems of the priests’ robes and columns in Solomon’s Temple [Ex. 39:25, 1 Kings 7:18, 20, 42]. “Rimmon” derives from “ramam”, to RISE, EXALT, get oneself up, lift up self, or mount! Yehovah broke His covenant with the grumblers [Num.14:34 “…you shall know My breaking off…”] but binds up the breach of His people [Isaiah 30:26]  who “shall be called Repairer of the breach [Isaiah 58:12]…”! Yehovah is gracious and long-suffering, providing fruit in the breach, for us to rise up and exalt His Name! —>
  • And they departed from Rimmon-Parez, and camped in Libnah [a white tree, from “laban“, to make white. Frankincense used at the golden altar burns white. Our prayers , as believers, are white smoke rising to the very throne of Elohim [Revelation 4, 8]. Our scarlet sins shall be white as snow, if we reason with Yehovah, submit and obey [Isaiah 1:16-20]. Saints shall be dressed in robes of white, as the priests, in fine linen [Revelation 19:8].—>
  • And they moved from Libnah, and camped at Rissah [a ruin, dripping to pieces, as a dew drop]. “Rissah” comes from “rasas“, to temper or moisten with drops of water; to comminute, break down in minute particles or pulverize. As we “break down”, die to self, in Yeshua, we rise in Him, covered as with the “dew of Heaven” [Genesis 27:28, 39; Deut. 33:28; Ps. 133:3; Prov. 3:20, 19:12 “His favor is as dew upon the grass”; Hosea 14:5, “I will be as the dew unto Israel”; and Zechariah 8:12, “…and the heavens shall give their dew”]. The dew is a covering for vegetation; it shines and reflects the Light; it nourishes and waters and cleanses all beneath it!—->
  • And they journeyed from Rissah, and camped in Kehelathah [a convocation, assembly, from qahal, to assemble]. (They assembled all the congregation in the Senai [Numbers 1:18] , again at Shiloh [Joshua 18:1], with Solomon to dedicate the Temple [1 Kings 8], with David [1 Chronicles 15:4, 28:1], and with Esther, at Shushan [Esther 9:18].) Convoke is to call together, to meet or assemble. Qorah rose up  with 253 others before Moshe, [Numbers 16: 1-3], and  then assembled all the congregation against them at the door of the Tent of Appointment. Yehovah opened up the earth to swallow them , with fire to consume, their censers beaten into covering the altar, for a sign [v.32, 35, 38]! Assemble to praise, worship, adore rather than rebel! Yehovah covered the Tent and His esteem appeared. He would have wiped out the whole congregation, but Moshe with Aaron put fire from the altar on the incense and made atonement, to stop another plague: “…and stood between the dead and the living [v.48]”. Our prayers are a matter of life and death for the assembly! Do not give up on them who transgress…—->
  • And they went from Kehelathah, and camped in Mount Shapher [beauty, from shaphar: to glisten, be or make fair]! In Aramaic, it is to be pleasing [Daniel 6:1], be beautiful, bright. Psalm 16:6 says, ” the heritage is beautiful for pleasing to me’. —>
  • And they moved from Mount Shapher, and encamped in Haradah [trembling, fear, anxiety]. In the wrath to come, “all men who are on the face of the earth shall shake at My presence [Ezekiel 38:20]. Isaac “shuddered with exceedingly great trembling” [Genesis 27:33] after he blessed Ya’akov, upon Esau appearing for his blessing. “There was trembling in the camp, in the field, and among all the people. The outpost and the raiders also trembled, and the ground shook. And it became a trembling of Elohim [1 Samuel 14:15]”. Fear or trembling before man is a snare of men [Proverbs 29:25]. But the supernatural can cause “terror” such as seeing “the vision” of Daniel [10:7] ! In the time of Ya’akov’s distress, when they heard a “voice of trembling“, Yehovah shall save him out of it [Jeremiah 30:5-7]!
  • And they moved from Haradah, and camped in Makheloth [assemblies, for worship; from qahal]. “My foot shall stand on a level place; in the assemblies I bless Yehovah [Psalm 26:12]”!
  • “Bless Elohim in the assemblies, Yehovah, from the fountain of Yisrael [Psalm 68:26]”! These assemblies may be choirs!  When we praise Him , He inhabits our praise!—>
  • And they moved from Makheloth, and encamped at Tahath [ bottom, under]. ” For the hand of Yehovah rests on this mountain, and Moab is trodden down under Him, as straw is trodden down in the water of dunghill [Isaiah 25:10]”. We are under  Heaven and His authority; we belong to Him; He says, “And they are mine…”! Yithro, the Midianite priest , Moshe’s father-in-law, rejoiced and blessed Yehovah when told what Yehovah had done: “Blessed be Yehovah, who has delivered you out of the hand … from under the hand of the Egyptians. Now I know that Yehovah is greater…[Exodus 18: 10-11].” —>
  • And they departed from Tahath, and camped at Tarah [Tarach, Terach, father of Abraham; a kind of ibex]. Ibex are mountainous wild goats of Israel, clean before Yehovah [Deut. 14:5]. Terach begat Abram, Nahor and Harran [Genesis 11:26]. He took Abram and Lot out of Ur to Haran and dwelt there [parched, from charar, to glow, as in burn, hot, incite passion]. We are to be clean, rise up, remain on fire for Yehovah! —>
  • And they moved from Tarah, and camped in Mithcah [sweetness, from mathaq: to suck, relish, be [made] sweet]. The Word is sweet as honey, “eat honey, for it is good…[Proverbs 24:13]”! Sampson’s riddle in Judges 14 speaks of honey out of the carcass of the lion : “out of the strong came forth sweetness“. The Word proclaimed is sharper than a 2-edged sword, returns not void. “Pleasant words are like the honeycomb, sweet to the being, and healing to the bones [Proverbs 16:24]”!—->
  • And they went from Mithcah, and camped in Hashmonah [fertile, firm in resources, wealthy]. “The righteous one flourishes like a palm tree, He grows like a cedar …. Those who are planted in the House of Yehovah flourish in the courts of our Elohim [Psalm 92:12-13].” “…We went through fire and through water; but You brought us out to plenty [Psalm 66:12]”!—->
  • And they departed from Hashmonah, and encamped at Moseroth [corrections, from “moserah“, chastisement, from “yasar“, to chastise , instruct]. “He who spares his rod hates his son, but he who loves him, seeks him with discipline [Proverbs 13:24]”. “My son, do not despise the discipline of Yehovah [Prov.3:11]”. ” O Yehovah, in distress they shall visit You, they shall pour out a prayer when Your disciplining is upon them [Isaiah 26:16]”! “The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed [Isaiah 53:5]”. —>
  • And they departed from Moseroth, and camped in Bene-Yaakan , site of several wells [Bene:sons ; Ya’akan from “Aqan“, a son of Se’ir the Horite, in the land of Edom, Genesis 36:27. Esau is the forefather of the Edomites in Mount Se’ir.] “Aqan” means tortuous or twist. “See, a storm of Yehovah shall go forth in a rage, a whirling storm! It whirls on the head of the wicked [Jeremiah 23:19]”! —>
  • And they moved from Bene-Yaakan, and encamped at Hor-Hagidgad , the Hollow at Gidgad [Hor: chor, a den, hole, cave, cavity, socket; HaGidgad:  the cleft; from “gadad”: to crowd, to gash, as in pressing into, assemble selves by troops]. See a man called Zakkai, a chief rich, tax collector who seeking to see  Yeshua , climbed a tree, because of the crowd pressing in [Luke 19:3]! The woman with the flow of blood 12 years, having heard about Yeshua, pressed in behind him in the crowd, and touched His garment to receive healing [Mark 5:27]! Rabbi Sha’ul [Paul] wrote in his letter to the Philippians, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the high calling of Elohim in Messiah [3:14]! —>
  • And they went from Hor-HaGidgad, and camped in Yotvathah (Jotbath, Jotbathah in KJV)[pleasantness, from yatab: to be/make well, sound beautiful, happy, successful]. “The humble shall see, they rejoice, you who seek Elohim, and your hearts live [Psalm [69:32]”! “So the matter was good in the eyes of the children of Yisrael, and the children of Yisrael blessed Elohim [Joshua 22:33]”. “And it shall be, when you go with us, then it shall be that whatever good Yehovah does to us, the same we shall do to you [Numbers 10:32]”.—>
  • And they moved from Yotvathah, and encamped at ‘Ebronah [transitional, from ‘Ebron, from ‘eber, a region across from, the other side, from ‘abar, to cross over, carry over, pass along]. After Abram’s defeat of the 5 kings, the King Malkitsedeq [priest of the Most High El] came out to meet him at the King’s Valley, bringing bread and wine [Genesis 14:17-18]. “O give thanks to Yehovah, for He is good…and made Yisrael pass through the midst of [Sea of Reeds], for His kindness is everlasting [Psalms 136:1, 14]”. —>
  • And they departed from Ebronah, and encamped at Etzion-Gaber, a seaport on the Red Sea [backbone like of a man, spine, firmness to body]. “And from the peace offering he shall bring near-as an offering made by fire to Yehovah-its fat, all the fat tail …close to the backbone … [Leviticus 3:9]”. And he took up his proverb and said, ‘The saying of Bilam, son of Be’or, and the saying of the man whose eyes are opened…[Numbers 24:15]”. A man of Elohim is strong, in Him, sacrificing self, blessing His people, with eyes of the heart open.
  •  Numbers 17, 18, & 19 Yehovah choses Aaron with the blooming almond branch [17:1-13]; more atonement rulings given for the wickedness toward the Set-Apart Place, the Sanctuary, and the priesthood [18]; and the red heifer without blemish is sacrificed[19]. —->
  • And they departed from Etzion-Gaber, and camped in the wilderness of Tzin, which is Qadesh [sanctuary, or quasi-sacred person (temple prostitute), from qadash, to be/ make or pronounce clean; appoint, consecrate, dedicate, be/keep holy, purify, sanctify]. Eyn Mishpat [Fountain of Judgement] is another name for Qadesh [Genesis 14:7]. Hagar, servant of Sarai, called on Yehovah at Be’er Lahai Roi [Well of the Living One who sees], between Qadesh [the sanctuary] and Bered (hail!)**[Gen. 16:14]!  Abraham dwelt between Qadesh [ the sanctuary] and Shur [a wall; from row of olive trees or vines] and stayed in Gerar [a Philistine city; rolling, from garar, to drag off roughly, chew, destroy!] when he lied to Abimelek about Sarah “his sister” [Genesis 20:1-2]! “And you shall take some of the blood that is on the altar…anointing oil and sprinkle it …and he and his garments shall be qodesh [holy] (Exodus 29:21)”. ” I shall exalt Myself and qadosh Myself, and I shall be known in the eyes of many nations. And they shall know that I AM Yehovah [Ezekiel 38:23]”.
  • The congregation is in Qadesh,  where Miryam dies. [Num. 20:1] The people contend again for no water, and Moshe, in anger, strikes The Rock twice, in defiance, for which he is never allowed to enter the promised land [v.11]! “Brother” Edom [Esau] refuses to allow ‘brother” Yisrael to pass over their land [v.14-21]. —>
  • And they departed from Kadesh, and camped in Mount Hor, near the border of Edom. “And Aaron the priest went up into Mt. Hor at the command of Yehovah, and died there, in the 40th year after the children of Yisrael had come out…the 1st day of the 5th month [33:38]”. Aaron  123 years old,  was not to enter the promised land because he also rebelled against “His Mouth” at Meribah [contention] (v.9-13]. Aaron was stripped of his priestly garments,  given to El’azar his son. All wept 30 days [v. 24-29]. A Canaanite king  Arad [sequester, fugitive] fought Yisrael and took some captive! Yisrael made a vow to Yehovah at Hormah [devoted, from charam, to seclude, by a ban to devote to religious uses only, make accursed, snub-nose]. They placed a ban on all Canaanite cities if Yehovah gave them victory, which He did [21:1-3]!—>
  • And they departed from Mount Hor, and camped in Zalmonah [shadiness; derived from ‘shade of death’, grave, calamity]. Almost a warning! A shadow of death!—->
  • And they departed from Zalmonah, and camped in Punon [perplexity, from puwn, to turn, be distracted, to be perplexed]! “…the people grew impatient because of the Way…”[v.4], going around Edom by the Way of the Sea of Reeds [qanah:bow, worship]. They spoke against Elohim and Moshe, so Yehovah sends fiery serpents among the people, to bite them! They repent,  Moshe intercedes and makes the Bronze Serpent on a pole, to look upon and be healed [v.6-9]—->
  • And they departed from Punon, and camped in Oboth [waterskins, from owb, prattling mumble, the hollow sound, necromancer or ventriloquist bottle, a familiar spirit!] Avoid necromancers, mediums, familiar spirits, all abomination to Yehovah [Deut. 18:9-13]—>
  • And they departed from Ovoth, and camped in Iye-HaAbarim [ruins of passers or heap of cross-overs] at the east border of Moab, “toward the sunrise [Num. 21:11], toward the Eternal One! “You have broken down all his hedges, You have brought his strongholds to ruin. All who pass by the way plunder him; he is a reproach to his neighbors [Psalm 89:40]”. “Therefore I judge you, O house of Yisrael, every one according to his ways, declares the Master Yehovah. Repent, and turn back from all your transgressions, and let not wickedness be a stumbling-block to you [Ezekiel 18:30]”.—->
  • And they departed from Iyim [heaps], and camped in  a Moabite city, Dibon-Gad [mope, sorrow] (Numbers 33:45). Numbers 21:12 states from Iyim they camped at wadi or brook Zered [to be exuberant, lined with shrubbery], east of the Dead Sea; then departing and camping on the other side of the Arnon River…between Moab and the Amorites. There is a “Book of Battles of Yehovah”[v.14].
  • And they departed from Dibon-Gad, and encamped in in AlmonDiblathayim [hidden].
  • And they departed from Almon-Divlathayim, and camped in the mountains of Abarim [plural ‘eber, regions beyond, passages], before Nebo [Babylonian diety; Mt. Nebo, became a Reubenite territory, now Jordan].
  • And they departed from the mountains of Abarim [cross-overs], and camped in the plains of Moab [“from her father”, the incestuous son of Lot, his territory and descendants; Genesis 19:37], by Yarden [the Jordan River, descender] near Yericho [Jericho; fragrant, a district abounding with in palms, rose-gardens, balsam & other].
  • Numbers 21:15-18 mention Ar, capitol city of Moab and Be’er, well beyond the Arnon, from which Yehovah says to Moshe, “Gather the people, and let Me give them water”! Then Yisrael sang this song,

“Spring up, O well! Sing to it, a well the leaders sank, which the nobles of the people dug by hacking with their staves.”

  •  Numbers 21:18b-20 “Then from the desert wilderness on to Mattanah [present or sacrificial offering], from Mattanah to Nahaliel [valley of El], from Nahaliel to Bamoth [heights ] on the Arnon River, in the valley of Moab, to the top of Pisgah [a cleft, from pasag, to cut up, contemplate, consider] which looks down on the wasteland.” (Yisrael here smote Sihon [tempestuous] of the Amorites and dwelt in Heshbon [contrivance]: “For the fire went out from Heshbon, a flame from the city of Sihon. It consumed Ar of Moab, the masters of the heights of the Arnon. Woe to you, Moab…” [v.28-29]!)
  • Numbers 21:31-35 Yisrael dwells in the land of the Amorites, taking its villages and drove out Og [round] of Bashan and took possession of the land!—>
  • And they camped by Yarden, from Beth-Yesimoth [house of the deserts] even to Abel-Shittim [meadow of the acacias, scourging thorn bushes, the wood of the altars of the Tabernacle] in the plains of Moab by the Yarden. Here Yehovah says,

” When you pass over the Yarden into the land of Kanaan, then you shall drive out all the inhabitants of the land from before you, and destroy all their stone images, and destroy all their molded images, and demolish all their high places…for I have given you the land to possess… [Numbers 33:51-54]”.

“Defile not the land that you shall inhabit, in which I dwell: for I Yehovah dwell among the children of Yisrael [35:34]”.

“But if you will not drive out the inhabitants…then it shall come to pass, that those which you let remain shall be thorns in your eyes…in your sides, and shall distress you in the land…I shall do to you, as I thought to do to them [33:55-56]”.

Our choices, the choices of the Yisraelites: to tabernacle with and contemplate  the wonders of Elohim, or the “mouth of gorges”;to bow & worship Yehovah or bitterness; strength from worship or piercing; beat/ pressed down or comfort/refreshment; His laws/ instructions or lust; His covering or to be yoked; fruit of His Spirit, to rise up, be exalted, cleansed and pure or ruins; assemble in worship, to glisten & glow or fear, anxiety; to praise in song, have sweetness; wealth, or corrections or torture; pressed in the cleft or pleasantness; transition, cross-overs, strength, sanctuary or shadows of death, perplexity, emptiness, ruin; mope, sorrow or exuberance; covering, passages, crossovers or taboo, incest; well of waters, His sacrifice on the cross, or the valley of El; the heights, to consider or the tempest; and the house  in the desert or meadows of acacias!

Sanctuary under the wings of the Almighty or “the hail of Sodom” are our  choices . Yehovah is faithful to the end, as with Yisraelites, who never went hungry nor whose shoes wore out! They received of the Waters of Life and the Bread from Heaven, were immersed in the cleansing waters, and led by the Spirit. They looked upon the Bronze Serpent on the pole and were healed, from the bites of the serpent. Yet many never entered the promised land! May we enter and drive out the spirits of depression, disbelief and pride and possess the land!

“O Yisrael, return to Yehovah your Elohim…I shall heal their backsliding, I shall love them spontaneously, for My displeasure has turned away from him. I shall be like the dew to Yisrael. He shall blossom like the lily…his branches spread, and his splendor shall be like an olive tree…[Hosea 14:1-6]”.

Chazak Chazak VeNitchazak! ” Be Strong, Be Strong! And May we be strengthened!

In the Name of Yeshua, ahmein!

Between the Sanctuary and Hail**: a study Numbers 33

Our choices, the choices of the Yisraelites: to tabernacle or the “mouth of gorges”;to bow & worship Yehovah or bitterness; strength from worship or piercing; beat/ pressed down or comfort/refreshment; His laws/ instructions or lust; His covering or to be yoked; fruit of His Spirit, to rise up, be exalted, cleansed and pure or ruins; assemble in worship, to glisten & glow or fear, anxiety; to praise in song, have sweetness; wealth, or corrections or torture; pressed in the cleft or pleasantness; transition, cross-overs, strength, sanctuary or shadows of death, perplexity, emptiness, ruin; mope, sorrow or exuberance; covering, passages, crossovers or taboo, incest; well of waters, His sacrifice on the cross, or the valley of El; the heights, to consider or the tempest; and the house in the desert or meadows of acacias!

Yoshiyahu [Josiah] sits on the throne in Jerusalem [Yerushalayim] 31 years .

When the king heard the words [of the scroll of Torah] he tore his clothes.

“And before him there was no melech [king] like him, that made teshuvah [repentance] to YHWH with all his heart, and with all his being, and with all his might, according to all the Torah [instructions, teachings] of Moshe [ from YHWH]; and neither after him arose there any like him [2 Kings 23:25] “.

  •  For  years  he is surrounded , with godly advisors such as Hilkiyahu [Hilkiyah= portion of YaH], the High Priest [Kohen HaGadol].
  • At age 16, he begins to seek after the Elohim [God Almighty] of David his abba [father; generations earlier] {2 Chronicles 34:3}.
  • At age 18, 10 years on the throne, he starts to do that which is right in the sight of Yehovah [2 Kings 22: 1-3].

“[He] had his way in the ways of David his abba, and turned neither to the right nor to the left [2 Chron. 34:1]”.

  • At age 20, he begins to purge Yahudah [Judah] and Yerushalayim [Jerusalem] of the idol temples, the Asherim [ vessels to worship goddess of fertility], the carved images, the molten images [2 Chron. 34:3b].
  • He has them break down the altars of Ba’alim in his presence, and the images above them he breaks in pieces, “makes dust of them” and scatters the dust upon graves of idol worshipers [v.4].
  • He burns the bones of their priests upon their altars [v.5].
  • Cleansing begins in Jerusalem and Judah, and reaches to tribes of Israel under Judah’s control: Menashsheh, Efrayim, Shimeon, and Naphtali.
  • At age 26, Yoshiyahu orders needed repairs to the Temple and permits Shaphan the scribe to read the words of the scroll, of the Torah [v.8-18].
  • Hilkiyahu finds the scroll hidden in the Temple, while searching for silver, to repair the Temple [v.14]

Torah is instructions; His Word is the LIght, to my feet, a Lamp to my way!

  •  As Yoshiyahu[=founded of YaH] hears the words of Yehovah, from the scroll found, possibly Deuteronomy 28:36,  he repents , mourns and tears  his clothes [ v.10-11] .

Yoshiyahu repents upon hearing Deuteronomy 28:36. The scroll was found by Hilkiyahu the priest upon searching for silver in the ruined Temple, upon orders to repair.

  • He then commands Hilkiyahu the Kohen HaGadol [high priest], and Ahikam the son of Shaphan , and Achvor the son of Michayah, and Shaphan the Sopher [scribe], and Asayah a servant [eved] of the king [melech], saying:

“Go, inquire of YHWH [tetragrammaton for I Am that I Am or EhYeh EhYah] for me, and for the people, and for all Yahudah [Judah], concerning the words of this scroll that is found:

for great is the wrath of YHWH that is lit against us, because our ahvot [fathers] have not listened to the words of this scroll, to do according to all that which is written concerning us [2 Kings 22:13]”.

So the 5 godly men Hilkiyahu, Ahikam, Achvor, Shaphan,  and Asayah go to Huldah the neviyah [prophetess] the wife of Shallum the son of Tikvah, the son of Charhas, keeper of the wardrobe :

“{now she dwelt in Yerushalayim [City of Peace] studying Torah [ the instructions of YaH as given to Moshe, including Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy]}, and they communed with her [v.14b]”.

  • Huldah  or Chuldah, [ weasel, from cheled, to glide swiftly, as in fleeting moment of life] is one of 7 female prophets in Scriptures. Jeremiah was  her kinsman, both descended from Joshua and Rahab. She has an academy or schoolhouse, living in the Second Quarter or Mishneh in Jerusalem. The Mishneh is on the hill west of the Temple, by Hezekiah’s south-western wall.
  • 5 godly men inquire of the LORD by going to see Huldah, rather than Jeremiah, prophet to 5 kings!
  • So “portion of YaH”  [Hilkiyahu the priest] and “brother of rising” [Ahikam], and “mouse, as in nibbling or attacking” [Achvor or Akbor], and “coney, or rock-rabbit, one which hides in the Rock” [Shaphan], and “YaH-made” [Asayah] go to “weasel or fleeting glide of life” [Huldah], the wife of “requital, recompense or reward” [Shallum], the son of “hope” [Tikvah], the son of “shining” [Harhas or Charhas], keeper of the Wardrobe [beged, a covering or clothing, here the priestly robes, garments or vestures ]!
  • Message here: Your covering [from sin] and shining reward in this fleeting moment of life is made by YHWH, given to one who hides in Him and eats of His Word, the Son of Rising [Malachi 4:2]; this is your “portion of YaH”! Glory!
  • It has been noted that Shallum [reward] her husband was a noble , compassionate man who gave water to passerbys and was so rewarded and  blessed to have such a godly wife.
  • Huldah boldly prophesizes doom on Jerusalem “because they have forsaken” YHWH and burned incense to other “elohim”, that they have provoked Him [v.16].
  • But to the king, “the man” [v.15], because his heart “is tender” and he “has humbled” himself before YHWH, he would not see the wrath but would “be gathered ” to his ahvot [fathers] in “shalom” [peace] {v.19-20}. He later dies in battle but receives the promise of life eternal in the resurrection prior to the Tribulation and prior to the exile of Yahudah to Babylon.

“…Neither shall your eyes see all the evil that I will bring upon this place, and upon the inhabitants of it [v. 2o]”.

  • Tender heart, humility come from hearing His Words. As we humble ourselves before Him, and ‘tear our clothes’ and weep, He hears us:

“I have even heard you also, says YHWH [v.19]”!

  • Yoshiyahu stands by a pillar [a symbol for strength, foundation] and makes a brit [covenant] before YHWH and all the people of Yahudah and Yerushalayim,

“…To have his way in the ways of YHWH, and to keep His mitzvot and His mishpatim and His chukim [commandments, rulings and ordinances] with all his heart and all his being, to perform the words of this covenant that were written in this scroll [23:3]”!

Now Yoshiyahu cleanses his “own house” , the Bayit [House] of YHWH [23:4-20]:

  • He orders all the kohenim [priests great and small], including “keepers of the door” or portal opening [to good or evil]:  to remove all things pertaining to Ba’al pagan worship that were actually within the house of Elohim! He burns them outside of the city in the fields of the Kidron [=mourning] and carries the ashes to Beth-El .
  • He puts down the priests of Ba’al [sanctioned by former kings] who burnt incense to elohim , brings them out, destroys the idol temples in the gates or openings of the city, of  Yahoshua, governor, made with the “left” hand not in covenant with  YHWH. He also destroys the idol temples built by Shlomo [Solomon] “which were on the right hand of the Mount of Corruption [v.13]!
  • He brings out from the Bayit [House] of YHWH  the Asherah, the goddess of fertility, burns her image at the Kidron and casts the dust upon graves of children of the people.
  • He breaks down  the Sodomite  “Asherah” weaving- houses that were in the Bayit, and also the  idol-altars in the upper room and 2 courts of the Bayit, casting the dust in the Kidron.
  • He destroys Topheth, in the Valley of the Children of Hinnom so a man would never make his child pass through fire again [v.10] .
  • At Beth-El, he breaks down the idol altar and temple built there by Yahravam [=people contend with Yah, Jeroboam], king of Yisra’el, son of Nevat [regard] {see 1 Kings 11:26-40; 12:25-33}. Yoshiyahu even opens tombs to burn the bones to pollute the altar, leaving alone the tomb of “the man of Elohim” who had prophesied such event and bones of the prophet ” who came out of Shomron” [13:1-34]!
  • He continues to destroy the houses and idol temples in Shomron [Samaria] and kills their priests, burning their bones.
  • Back in Yahudah and Yerushalayim, he puts away all workers of “abominations”, the mediums, workers with familiar spirits, and the idols and the images, ” that he might perform the words of the Torah…[2 Kings 23:24]”.
  • He commands and “keeps” the Pesach [Passover] held to YHWH in Yerushalayim [v. 21-23], for the first time from the days of the judges  [shophtim]:

“Surely there was no such Pesach prepared …in all the days of the melechim [kings] of Yisrael, nor of the kings of Yahudah [v.22]”!

Yoshiyahu ‘profits’ well by inquiring of YHWH through Huldah (Heb. חֻלְדָּה; “weasel”) the prophet-in-residence in Yerushalayim!  The prophecies seal the ‘calling’ on Yoshiyahu and authorize him to make right what was ‘evil’, and undo all that was done by Menashsheh [21:9-16], his grandfather & former king.

  • The south-eastern and south-western gates, 5 in all, to the Temple were named to honor  the prophetess Huldah, [ sometime after the prophets?], calling these the “Huldah Gates” .  When the Ottoman Empire took over Jerusalem, they built a mosque and in the process they closed off, bricked up, and totally hid most of the old,  Huldah gates. In essence they were hidden [ from Jewish Encyclopedia].
  • “The Midrash (Rabbinic commentaries on the Scriptures) says this gate was “never destroyed. Rashi comments that this was the gate where she sat and taught; it is referred to as “Mishneh” [Second Quarter] in the verse (Melachim/ Kings II 22:14). …. [There is a comment added to Rashi’s commentary on that verse in Melachim, suggesting that Chuldah taught… to the sages by that gate….] (http://ohave.tripod.com/chumash/chuldah.htm).”
  • Huldah , again,  resided in an area adjacent to the temple, in a western section called the “Second Quarter” [ “college” in some translations].  It seems she was one of a group separated out and called to be loyal to Elohim . The prophets had areas where they worked: some roamed, like Eliyahu,  some were rural, and some were city . Some, like Huldah and later, Anna, were part of the daily working of the temple.

Not by might, not by power, but by My Spirit, says the LORD!

From Wikipedia:

The Huldah Gates (Hebrew: שערי חולדה, Shaarei Chulda) are the two sets of now-blocked gates in the Southern Wall of the Temple Mount, situated in Jerusalem’s Old City. The western set is a double arched gate (the double gate), and the eastern is a triple arched gate (the triple gate). Each arch of the double gate led into an aisle of a passageway leading from the gate into the Mount, and to steps leading to the Mount’s surface; when the al-Aqsa Mosque was built, the old steps were blocked, and the eastern aisle lengthened so that new steps from its end would exit north of the Mosque. The triple gate is similar, though the longer aisle is to the west, and its third aisle, on the east, forms the western boundary of the vaulted area known as Solomon’s Stables.

 Conclusion

In this fleeting moment of life in Yoshiyahu, he enters the portal to Heaven and transforms into a soldier for YHWH, braver, mightier than even his “abba” David. We all have it in us to become this warrior, as His Spirit, the Ruach HaKodesh, moves in us. Only, we must remove the obstruction or blockage, whatever it is, as shown by the Spirit. Then we shine with hope of receiving our reward as we become “made by YaH” and hide in the Rock, ‘nibbling’ with our ‘brother of rising’ as we seek our portion from YaH. Commune with Him! Seek your portion at the gate, Yeshua! Ahmein.

Shout, O barren one, You who bore no child! Shout aloud for joy, You who did not travail! For the children of the wife forlorn shall outnumber those of the espoused–said Yehovah the LORD! ~ Isaiah 54:1

In Genesis 38, Tamar, a  young childless widow, probably prayed for a child and humbly received the “duty [Levitical law of inheritance, Deuteronomy 25:5]” of her brother-in-laws to provide offspring by her, for their brother. However, they did not right as we shall study, and “sin crouching at the door”, almost prevented the Messiah to come through the line of Judah!

We can see an example of sin “crouching at the door” in Genesis 4: the LORD was not accepting Cain and his offerings to Him because Cain’s heart was not acceptable. Rather than repent and turn from his sin, he became distressed.

Yehovah God  said to Cain ,

“Why are you wroth? And why is your face fallen? [Genesis 4:6] If you do well, is there not acceptance?

And if you do not do well, sin is crouching at the door. And its desire is for you, but you should master it [v.7]”!

Cain~ Qayin [Hebrew= striking fast, a lance or spear]~  does not do right, murders his  twin brother, Abel, and is driven into the wilderness marked [v.15].

Since man is sinful, the Holy Spirit, the very breath of Yehovah,  “shall not abide in man forever”, [Genesis 6:3]. Yehovah will not strive forever in our going astray. We are flesh and our days are numbered [6:3, 5]. We need to be masters over sin and death, made in His image. But we are flesh and… little “sin” or “missing the mark” leads often to more sin unless we “nip it in the bud”!

  • With sin forever crouching at the door, how do we master it?

Judah [~Yahudah, in Hebrew,  means “worshipper of YHVH”] is  Ya’akov/ Jacob’s  4th son] and goes astray. He had gone astray long before he deceived Tamar, his daughter-in-law to wait at her father’s house with no intention of giving his son, Shelach, to her [Gen. 38:11].

Sin crouched earlier at his door and that of his 9 brethren, when they became jealous of Joseph [Yoseph], envious of his multi-colored coat, and hated him for his dreams of the “sun and moon and the eleven stars [his brothers] bowing down” to him [Gen. 37:3-11] . Yoseph was only 17 and Benyamin [Benjamin] was younger and stayed behind with Ya’akov.

Sin became evident when they conspired to murder Yoseph . At the counsel of the eldest, Re’uben, they stripped Yoseph and threw him into a dry pit [v.22].  And Yahudah [Hebrew, “one who worshiped Yehovah”]  advised they sell Yoseph so ‘their hands would be clean’!

“And at that time [Yoseph sold to Potiphar in Egypt] it came to be that Yahudah (1) left his brothers [and Ya’akov ] and (2) turned aside to a man [not Yehovah!] an Adullamite whose name was Chirah [in the sense of false ‘splendor’] {Gen. 38:1}”.

“And Yahudah (3) saw there a daughter of a certain Kena’anite whose name was Shuwa [halloo, a cry of freedom]. And he (4) took her and went in to her [v. 2].”

Yahudah was even in Chezib, a Canaanite [Kena’anite] village, at the birth of Shelah, his third son [v.5].

  • Chezib , in Hebrew, is “falsified” from “kazab“, to lie, deceive, fail.

Yahudah took  Tamar [ Hebrew=palm tree] for Er [Hebrew=watchful] , his first-born son, to wife. But Er “was evil in the eyes of YHWH, and YHWH took his life [v.7]”.

Onan [Hebrew=strong], his second son, was told to “go in to your brother’s wife and marry her and raise up an heir to your brother [v.8]”. But Onan refused, wasted his ‘seed’ on the ground, not wanting to give an offspring for his brother Er [v.9]. Yehovah takes his life too [v.10]! What Onan did displeased Yehovah.

  • The custom both among the Hebrews, Ya’akov and 12 sons, and throughout the ancient world was that, if a man died without having any heirs, it was the duty of his younger brothers or his nearest surviving male relative to take his widow and have children by her who would carry on his family name. It was always Yehovah’s way to multiply Yisra’el among the nations.

When brothers live together and one of them dies and has no son, the wife of the deceased shall not be married outside the family to a strange man. Her husband’s brother shall go in to her and take her to himself as wife and perform the duty of a husband’s brother to her.  (Deuteronomy 25:5)

  • 400 years later, at Mt. Sinai, it became ” Torah ” or   “teaching”, instructions : the Levitical law of inheritance, Yehovah’s desire for our best way of life!

And it shall be that the first-born whom she bears shall assume the name of his dead brother, that his name may not be blotted out from Yisrael.” (Deuteronomy 25:6).

Yahudah deceives by sending Tamar back to her father’s home and fails to see Yehovah’s hand:

“‘Remain a widow in your father’s house until my son Shelah is grown’. For he said, ‘Lest he also die as his brothers did’ [v.11].”

Yahudah neither gives Tamar to his son Shelah nor takes Tamar to wife after the death of his wife [Gen. 38:12]. Also there are no heirs for Er and Onan.

Yahudah has forsaken the ways of his fathers Ya’akov , Yitzchak and Avraham, and  ‘errs ‘ in so many ways!

“In You our fathers trusted; they trusted, and You rescued them. To You they cried out and they escaped; In You they trusted and were not disappointed [Psalm 22:5-6]”!

  • His father Ya’akov marries Rivkah’s nieces, worships Yehovah, builds altars of sacrifice and praise, confesses his sin and fault, swears by fear of Yehovah, prays to the Elohim of his father in thanksgiving and supplication, even dreams in the Spirit with understanding! [Genesis 28:1-5,10-22; 31:53, 54; 32:10-13; 35:6-7, 9-12]

Rather, Yahudah is comforted [nacham, to sigh or breath deeply] after his wife’s death by ascending to his sheep-shearers, “gazaz-tse’own” to cut off his flock’s wool, figuratively to destroy an enemy himself, rather than through a sin sacrifice or supplication to Yehovah.

  • Ya’akov , his father, would have ascended to Beyth-El [House of El], and offered a prayer of supplication, to receive Yehovah’s open portal of forgiveness and blessings.

In Isaiah 1:15-16, Yehovah appeals to those whose heart is corrupt and full of evil:

“Wash yourself and make yourself clean; put away the evil of your doings from before My eyes…learn to do good; seek mishpat [right-ruling], relieve the oppressed, defend the fatherless, and plead for the widow.

“Come now, and let us reason together, says YHWH: though your sins are as scarlet, they shall be white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall be as wool “.

  • If Yahudah were willing and obedient to Yehovah and His Way, his sins would be clipped, removed like wool, and be as far as the East is from the West!

Rather, Yahudah goes to Timnath with his chaver [friend] Chirah [false splendor] the Adullamite.  Timnah in Hebrew means “portion assigned”, from manah, to weigh out, allot, or prepare. Timnah was also a clan with families of Esau in Edom [Genesis 36:40].

Judah Gives his Signet, Bracelets and Staff in...

Judah Gives his Signet, Bracelets and Staff in Pledge to Tamar (illustration from the 1728 Figures de la Bible) (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

  • Timna in Genesis 36:12 is Esau’s son’s concubine, giving birth to Amalek, future enemy of  Israel [Yisra’el] the nation. Over 400 years later, Timnath is where Joshua is buried in Judah [Yahudah] and Sampson meets his first wife, in Dan [Judges 14:1].

Tamar rises like a palm tree to claim her “portion assigned” and right the wrongs of the Yahudah clan. Disguised as a harlot, she sits in the gate Enaim [~ ‘ayin: eye or fountain] or “the way to Timnath”! Yahudah turns to her by the way, pledges a kid goat and gives his seal, cord and staff to hold. Tamar conceives and reveals the father when Yahudah is about to have her burnt for fornication.

“And Yahudah acknowledged them [the seal, cord and staff], and said, She has been more tzadik [righteous] than I; because that I gave her not to Shelach my son. And he knew her no more [Genesis 38:26].”

The seal, cord and staff of Yahudah foreshadow the King and Messiah to come through the line of Yahudah:

Tamar holds the seal, cord & staff of Yehudah as proof…

  • Seal of the signet ring of rulership: “your brothers praise you; your hand is on the neck of your enemies; your father’s children bow down to you [Genesis 49:8”;
  • Cord or twine to bind “the donkey to the vine and the donkey’s colt to the choice vine [v.11];
  • Staff or sceptre that ” shall not turn aside from Yehudah nor a Lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh comes and to Him is the obedience of peoples [prophecy of Ya’akov, [ v.10]”.
  • Shiloh [shiy’loh] is “tranquil”, and a descriptive word for “Messiah”.
  • “Shiloh”  derives from “shalah” or “shalav”, to be tranquil, secure or successful, prosperous, happy. Messiah Yeshua promises life abundant with His peace, in Him.
  • Shelah, the son of Yahudah, is “petition and request”; however, the same name, Shelah, in 1 Chronicles 1:18, the son of Arphaxad, the son of Shem, is ” shoot of growth, a branch or missile such as a spear”, Shelach, from “shalach” to send away/ for or out, stretch forth, spread.
  • Siloam, the pool in Jerusalem, by the king’s garden is the same as Shiloah or Siloah, both derived from Shelach or Shiloach, a rill or fountain.

“And it came to be, when she [Tamar] was giving birth, that the one put out his hand. And the midwife took a scarlet thread and bound it on his hand, saying, ‘This one came out first’…as he drew back his hand…his brother came out! And she said, ‘How did you break through? This breach be upon you!’ So his name was called Perets.[Genesis 38:27-30]”!

” The sons of Yahudah : Er [WATCHFUL], AND Onan [STRONG] , and Shelach [SHOOT OF GROWTH]; the three of them were born to him by the daughter of Shuwa [ CRY OF FREEDOM, RICHES], the Kena’anitess. And Er, the first-born of Yehudah, was evil in the eyes of Yehovah, and He slew him [1 Chronicles 2: 3]”.

Watchful Strong Shoot of Growth Cries Freedom Abundance of Life: joy peace longsuffering in the Branch, the Nazarene Yeshua.

4) And Tamar [PALM tree], his daughter-in-law, bore him Perets [BREACH] and Zerach [RISING of LIGHT]. All the sons of Yahudah were five…5)  the sons of Perets… 6) and the sons of Zerach…”.

So the son of Yahudah, Perets, is ” a break “, from parats : to break out, make a breach, break away/ up/ forth, burst out, compel, disperse, open & press~ the rachamim [mercies] of Yehovah on the house of Yahudah!

“And those from among you shall build the old waste places. You shall raise up the foundations of many generations. And you would be called the Repairer of the breach [peretz], the Restorer of streets to dwell in.” ~ “light break forth..whose waters fail not” prophecy, Yeshayahu/ Isaiah 58:12

  • Job declares during his broken-mess, until Yehovah blesses him double :

“I was at ease, but He broke me. And He took me by the neck and shattered me, and He has stood me up for His target…He made a breach [peretz] in me, breach upon breach. He runs upon me like a mighty man [Job 16: 12 & 14].”

Perets’ twin, Zerach, becomes a hint of “rising of light”, from zarach, to irradiate, shoot forth beams of light, to rise as the sun; to appear suddenly, as soon as it is up!

Tamar pressed on , dioko, [ Greek ], to pursue, press toward, follow after:

“I press [dioko] on toward the goal for the prize of the high calling of Elohim in Mashiach Yeshua [ of God in Messiah Jesus]”. ~ Rabbi Sha’ul/ Paul, in Philippians 3:14

The genealogy of Perets [ the son of Tamar with Yahudah] :  Perets–> Chetsron–>Ram–> Amminadab–> Nahshon–>Salmon–>Boaz–>Obed–>Yishai [Jesse]–>  David —> 14 generations –> Messiah Yeshua.

“In that day, there shall be a Root of Yishai/Jesse standing as a banner to peoples– Unto Him [Messiah Yeshua] the gentiles/nations shall seek,   and His Rest shall be esteem…And it shall be in that day that YHWH puts His hand again a second time to recover the remnant of His people…And He shall raise a banner and gather the outcasts…and assemble the dispersed of Yahudah from the four corners of the earth [ Yeshayahu/ Isaiah 11:10-12]”.

  •  Widow Naomi sells her husband’s land and now destitute, seeks a “redeemer”. But the ‘next-in-line’ redeemer was ‘unavailable; instead he tells Boaz, next in line,to buy it himself!  He takes off his shoe before elders and the people to confirm the sale to Boaz, that he would no longer ‘walk on the land’ nor own it. So Boaz redeems or buys all that was Naomi’s husband’s, and her deceased sons and acquires Ruth, her daughter-in-law, as his wife to raise up the name of the dead on his inheritance . Boaz becomes “the kinsman redeemer”!
  • Ruth the Mo’abitess, a gentile, an alien and foreigner ,  is blessed through a  Hebrew redeemer!

” YHWH make the woman …as Rachel and as Leah [Ya’akov’s wives]…and proclaim the NAME in Beyth Lechem [ House of Bread~,  birthplace of Messiah, Bethlehem] (Ruth 4:11)”!

“And let your house be like the house of Perets whom Tamar bore to Yahudah, of the seed which YHWH gives you from this young woman [v. 12]”!

  • Naomi  had said to call her “Mara, for El Shaddai has dealt very bitterly with me [1:20]”!
  • Now, the women in praise  to Yehovah, esteem:

“Baruch [blessed] be YHWH, who has not left you this day without a Redeemer. And let His NAME be proclaimed in Yisra’el. And He shall be to you a Restorer of Life and a sustainer of your old age [Ruth 4:14-15]”!

“And the sons of Yehudah, according to their clans: of Shelah, the clan of the Shelanites; of Perets, the clan of the Partsites; of Zerach, the clan of the Zarchites. And the sons of Perets: of Chetsron, the clan of Chetsronites; of Chamul, the clan of Chamulites.

These are the clans of Yahudah according to their registered ones: 76,500 [Numbers 26: 20-22]”!

“So all the generations from Abraham to David were 14…and from David until the exile to Babel were 14…and from the exile to Babel until Messiah were 14…. [Mattityahu/ Matthew 1:17]”.

“And she shall give birth to a  Son [Ben] and you shall call His Name Yeshua for He shall save His people from their sins [Mattityahu/ Matthew 1:21]”.

May you receive this Son in your life. Yehovah has insured a Way for us to be saved from “sin crouching at the door”. If we believe on this Son and receive Him as LORD and Savior we shall reign with Him in the coming millennium and live eternal, amen.

Korach  and the Kohathites, sons of Levi, were servants in the Tabernacle, assigned to assist Aharon the cohen [priest] and his sons: “They are to carry out his duties and the duties of the whole community before the Tent of Meeting …in charge of all the furnishings…their one responsibility in regard to the people of Isra’el is to serve him [Numbers 3:7-9]”:

  • “The K’hat [Kohath] clans were to camp next to the tabernacle, toward the south [Numbers 3:29].”
  • “They were responsible for the ark, the table [of Bread of Presence], the Menorah, the altars [sacrificial & incense], the utensils the cohanim use when they serve in the Holy Place, the curtain, and everything involved with the maintenance of these things [Numbers 3:31].”

Moshe said to Korach [baldness], ” Listen…is it for you [sons of Levi] a mere trifle that the Elohim of Isra’el has separated you…to bring you close to Himself…do the work…of ADONAI and stand before the community serving them? [Numbers 16:8-9]”

  • When Moshe sends for Datan [strong] and Aviram [exalt my Father], also Levites, they refuse [v.12-14]!
  • Korach [baldness] assembles all the 250 with fire in their censers; he is still  angry  against Moshe the next morning. No mourning, no repentance, nor grief  in his heart noted in the morning!

“But I tell you that anyone who nurses anger against his brother will be subject to judgement; that whoever calls his brother, ‘You good-for-nothing!” will be brought before the Sanhedrin; that whoever says, ‘Fool!’ incurs the penalty of burning in the fire of Gei-Hinnom [Matthew/ Mattityahu 5:22]!”

  • The glory of ADONAI appears to all  in the morning and ADONAI commands the earth to open and swallow Korach, Datan and Aviram and all their households. “So they and everything they owned went down alive into Sh’ol. …Then fire came out…and destroyed the 250 men who had offered the incense [v.31-35]”.

The brass fire pans became holy and were hammered into plates to cover the  incense altar: “…to remind the people of Isra’el that an ordinary person not descended from Aharon is not to approach and burn incense before ADONAI [16:39-40]”.

  • Baldness [qorha or qarah, Korach] is “mourning” baldness, when the head hair of an Isra’elite is shaved to grieve, and clothes are torn, as a mark of mourning for the dead.
  • The culture of mourning today includes entering the house, lamenting and grieving, sitting “shiva”, 7 days, with mirrors covered, bringing food, preparing a meal, bringing comfort and consolation [see Jeremiah 16:5-9].
  • Otherwise, Isra’elites were FORBIDDEN to shave their heads, lest they be like the peoples around them.
  • In the Tanakh [Holy Scriptures] hair has a increasing importance and is called the crown of glory when gray [Proverbs  16:31].
  • Fallen hair or natural baldness is considered “clean” while a red and /or white spot on the scalp is “unclean” and under Levitical law as in Leviticus 13:40-45.

Pending judgement of ADONAI  and possible death, should have brought a change in Korach the Levite. As in Isaiah 3:24, there should have been :

“…instead of perfume, a stench; instead of a belt, a rope; instead of a well-set hair, a shaved scalp; instead of a rich robe, a sackcloth skirt; and a slave-brand instead of beauty.”

It may be said of Korach and the sons of Levi:

“That day Adonai Elohim-Tzva’ot [LORD of Hosts] called on you to weep and mourn, to shave your heads and wear sackcloth; but instead one sees joy and celebrating, killing of oxen, slaughtering of sheep, eating of meat, drinking of wine–‘Let’s eat and drink now, because tomorrow we’ll be dead!’ [Isaiah 22:12-13]”.

Was the “mark of mourning”, the shaved head on Elisha when he was taunted by boys , misunderstanding him, in Kings 2:23? Was he grieving the death of  prophet Eliyahu  the Tishbite [ Tishbe ~recourse ] of Gilead, [~heap of testimony east of the Yarden ] and so shaved his head? Natural baldness or mourning?

  • As the fiery chariot with horses of fire separated Eliyahu [Elijah] from Elisha. Elisha grieved and  cried out, “My father! My father! The chariots and horsemen of Isra’el [2 Kings 2:12]”. Then he lost sight of Eliyahu , seized his clothes, tearing them in half! Picking up Eliyahu’s prayer shawl, he struck the Yarden [Jordan], saying, ” Where is ADONAI, the G-d of Eliyahu?” And the Yarden divided! [v. 11-14]

“Elisha left to go up to Beit-El [House of El]. As he was on his way up the road, some boys came out of the town [not recognizing him for healing the waters of Yericho with salt to halt death & miscarriage,{v.19-22}?] and began making fun of him [ Lev. 21:5 Priests shall not make baldness on their heads for the dead ?]. ‘Go on up, baldy! Go on up, baldy!’ He looked behind him, saw them, and put a curse on them in the name of ADONAI, whereupon 2 female bears came out of the woods and mauled 42 of the boys [v. 23-24]”!

The cohen [priest] of  the sons of Aaron could not make himself unclean except for close blood relatives, “…because he is a leader among his people… [Leviticus 21 v.4]

“Rather they [cohanim] are to be holy for their God…they are the ones who present ADONAI with offerings made by fire, the BREAD of their God…[v.6].

Korach [baldness] was a K’hat son of Levi  but not a cohen. Also, Korach was not Aharon’s descenant, and so, was not forbidden to shave his head? Yet he certainly had “baldness” of the heart and neither mourned nor shaved his head . His “baldness  of the heart” was his sin and so he was judged by the Holy One.

Elisha a follower of Eliyahu the prophet mourned and grieved his death,  shaved his head as his mark of mourning for the dead.

Conclusion: Baldness

  1. While from natural causes, it  was not uncommon to shave heads as signs of mourning (2 Kings 2:23; Isa. 3:24). With the  Isra’elites  artificial baldness was a sign of mourning (Isa. 22:12; Jer. 7:29; 16:6); it also marked the conclusion of a Nazarite’s vow (Acts 18:18; 21:24; Num. 6:9).
  1. a. The cohanim were forbidden to shave heads ; they were disqualified for the priesthood if they had any defect (Lev. 21:20). One had to be perfect to present the BREAD of ADONAI.
  2. The people of the land such as the Egyptians shaved their heads, only allowing the hair to grow as a sign of mourning!
  3. Baldness is often alluded to (Micah 1:16; Amos 8:10; Jer. 47:5)
  4. The Isra’elites were forbidden to follow the customs of surrounding nations in making themselves bald (Deut. 14:1) except for mourning the dead.

Baldness [from Wikipedia]

The religious meaning of hair dates back before the Bible as a symbol of faith, truth and higher mind.  Jesus, Sampson & the prophets, never cut their hair because they believed it further connected them to God. Sampson’s story is that of a judge or religious leader with long hair and super-natural powers that become weak when his head was shaved. Conversely, the shaving of the head can be an act of grieving. The symbolic nature of hair depends on the religious tradition of each culture.

Jewish men are often seen with long, flowing beards that they never cut. The older they get, the longer the beard and the greater the wisdom. This symbolizes their connection to the divine element. Ancient Israelites considered baldness a sign of calamity and grief.
