For your Elohim brings you into a tov ( good) and spacious land…of brooks of mayim (waters, like the River of Life), of fountains ( from a’yin, an eye) and depths (te’hom, abyss or deep surging mass of the sea) that spring out of valleys (biq’ah, split wide open, broke forth) and hills. A land of wheat..barley…vines…fig trees and pomegranates…olive oil and honey…(Deuteronomy/Devarim 8:7& 8).
“When you have eaten and are full, then you shall bless YHWH your Elohim for the tov land that He has given you…for it is He that gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His brit (covenant) which He swore …to Avraham..Yizchak..Yaakov, as it is this day.” (v.10 & 18)
Pomegranate (Hebrew:rimmon) is the fruit of a shrub-like oblong leafed bush. Brilliant scarlet red blossoms become the fruit: a citrus- like rind round with floral-like top. It is packed with sections of red seeds, around 600 seeds or more!. Each seed is surrounded by pulp which must be pressed or squeezed to release the juice or to make a wine. How symbolic is this fruit of Our Savior pressed for us, whose blood covers our sins. We too are pressed to release fruit in His Spirit!
The Israelites ate pomegranate in Egypt, and missed them wandering in the dry desert of Tzin ( Numbers 20:5). They complained, and Moshe supplicated YHWH and saw His Glory. Then Moshe struck the Rock with the rod, rather than spoke to it , and the living waters still came out, because of YHWH’s mercies. The prophet Joel lamented how Babylon laid YHWH’s vine, Yisrael, to waste, in 1:12: “The vine is dried up…the fig tree droops; the pomegranate tree..even all the trees of the field are withered.” YHWH called a miqra kodesh, a holy fasting and praying in sackcloth so his people could repent and be saved.
Upon the hem of the High Priest Aharon’s robe were sewn pomegranates of blue, purple, and scarlet with bells of gold between them all around the hem, (Exodus 28:33 & 39:24) as YHWH commanded. The bells if silent alerted the congregation to the death in the Holy of Holies; the pomegranates reflected YHWH’s mercies and blessings, our fruit-fulness in Yeshua the Lamb.
Pomegranates covered the capitals of the two pillars of brass, two hundred in two rows all around (10x10x2 or completion for the 2 houses of YHWH?), on each pillar in the porch of King Solomon’s temple. The right pillar was called Yahchin, ” He will establish”. The left pillar he called Boaz , “fleetness”, (RSTNE p.265), meaning how with swiftness YHWH will establish unity between Judah and Ephraim into “one new man” under Him. (1Kings 7:18-22) ” And upon the top of the pillars was lily work: and so the work of the pillars was finished.” Lily as a flower or ornament symbolized the trumpet, from its tubular shape, to announce a convocation and usher in the second coming of the King of Kings, Yeshua HaMoschiach. (Lily in Hebrew is: shushan or shoshan or shoshannah. )
Pomegranates are full of vitamin C and antioxidants and may have been that apple eaten in the Garden of Eden. Pomegranates are good for our bodies and soul. YHWH instructed our forefathers to include them in their lives and we should too.
