Are You a Pot for Service? – Washing of Regeneration 4

” Have mercy on me O Elohim“, did David (~loving) plead , in Psalm 51.  “Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.” David, as King of Israel, was reprimanded by the prophet Nathan (~given) for not committing adultery with Bat-sheva{daughter of oath} (2 Samuel 12), but for murder of Uriyah, her husband, by placing him in the front of the enemy’s line . David recognized his original sin , also, and  repented for it and looked to YHWH as the One who pardons sin. “According to Your loving kindness (chesed) and the multitude of Your tender mercies (rachamim, plural, ongoing).  “See, I was shaped in iniquity; and in sin did my mother (eema) conceive me. ” (Psalm 51:1, 2, 5) David said to Natan, ” I have sinned against YHWH”, and Natan said to David, “YHWH also has taken away your sin. You will not die”. (2Sam 12: 13)

“Purge me with hyssop (unknown, might be marjoram or caper plant, azaf), and I shall be clean: wash (kabas) me, and I shall be whiter than snow. “(v.7)  Interesting is that hyssop, an unknown, is recorded in Exodus 12:22 as the way to apply the blood of the Lamb on the doorposts, and the way “vinegar mingered with gall (bile or poison)”(Mt:27:34) was administered to a ‘thirsty’ Jesus on the execution stake. Then He said His last word, “kala(in Greek, “it is finished“, but in Hebrew it can also mean “bride“, crying for His Bride, with Israel on His mind! ){John 19: 29,30}  The Levite priest is ordered by YHWH  to burn the red heifer, ( Numbers 19), and uses hyssop , cedarwood, and scarlet(shaniy tola~crimson grub/worm){v.6}, to cast them into the midst of the burning of the heifer.

The priest is then told to wash(~kabas) his clothes in mayim (waters) and bathe his body in mayim.  Also a clean man gathered the ashes and laid them outside of the camp in a clean place: the ashes were symbolic,” to be kept for the congregation of the children of Israel for the water of separation: it is for purification from sin.” (v.9) The Hebrew word ‘kabas‘ is to wash by the stamping of feet like the pressing of grapes!  It also means to trample!  When David said to wash him thoroughly, he knew the only way to be clean before YHWH was to subdue or trample the kingdoms of s.a.tan: fight lust, pride, arrogance, covetedness, jealousy, envy , self-righteousness,  and all else not of  YHWH.

From 1947 to 1952 in cliff caves of Qumran, known as the West Bank in Israel, 900 scrolls with thousands of fragments ,along with jars, pots and ritual baths ( miqvahs) were found .  This dry plateau has been identified with the sect of Jews known as Essenes, from 200 BCE to  70AD, separated,  ascetically living the ways of YHWH, sanctifying and purifying according to Levitical law.  Pots held not only water, but also the testimony, the presence of YHWH, the bread of Heaven. (Exodus 16:33 & Hebrews 9: 4) By the time of Jesus of Nazareth, the call of the “poor, in spirit”, were known as Nazarenes believing the Messiah of the line of David. There was also in Jerusalem the Essene Quarter with the Essene Gate.

Yeshua Ha Natzirite (naziyr: separate, consecrated, unpruned vine or Branch, as in Isaiah, and prince ) called out to Sha’ul (asked, inquired)~Apostle Paul, as he traveled outside Jerusalem toward Damascus.  At noon, a brilliant light from Heaven flashed and Sha’ul fell to the ground, blinded by the epiphany .  Hananyah ( Yah has favored)~ Ananias, an observant follower of the Torah, and highly regarded by the entire Jewish community, possibly an Essene, came to Sha’ul and prayed for sight. At that moment Sha’ul could see, Hananyah said, ” …know His will, see the Righteous (Yeshua), and hear His voice; because you will be a witness for him to everyone of what you have seen and heard. So now, what are you waiting for? Get up, immerse yourself and have your sins washed away as you call on His Name.” ( Acts 16: 6-16) Immerse is the Greek word baptizo or fully wet , from bapto, to cover wholly.  Wash is the Greek word apolouo, to wash fully, wash away, have remitted.

The jailer in Acts 16:29 -33 called for the light as Sha’ul shouted to him in the earthquake not to kill himself.  The jailer fell down before Sha’ul, asking what must he do to be saved? ” Believe on the Master Yeshua ha Moshiach, and you will be saved, and also your house(hold). The jailer was given the good news or gospel of Jesus.  The jailer responded by washing their wounds, and was immersed himself, he and all his family, right away! Notice no name given to the jailer, representing what each of us must do to be saved!

So, what about the pots of service?  A pot is empty until filled. It is your choice with what to fill it . In the examples above we see people who made choices to be a vessel for YHWH.Will you be filled and overflowing, as the woman in 2 Kings 4 who would receive as long as she could present empty containers?  When there were no more empty vessels, the oil stopped flowing.  Will you be a clean empty pot or unclean?

“That He might set it apart and cleanse it with the washing of mayim by the word, that He migh present it to Himself…holy and without blame.” ( Ephesians 5: 26-27)

“Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercies He saved us, by the washing of regeneration and the renewing work of the Holy Spirit.”    ( Titus 3:5)
